  Air Cadet Squadron

We are a fast moving and action packed youth organisation for young men and women between 13 and 18 years of age.  The Cadets have the opportunity of undertaking flying, gliding, shooting, adventurous training, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, visits to RAF stations and sport amongst many activities.  We parade on East Camp at RAF St. Athan on Monday & Wednesday evening 7 - 9.30pm.  Sqn Tel No 797189
  Alkido Classes

AIKIDO - Llantrisant Ki Society holds an Aikido class on Thursdays in the Minstrel Room above Halcyon Daze, opposite Ye Olde Masons Arms, Cowbridge. The class is held between 12 and 2.00 pm., and the cost is £3 per hour. Our study includes Kenkodo - Way of Health, as well as Aikido, which explores the resolution of conflict through harmony. Anyone, whatever size, shape, age etc. may practice. Each individual can improve their fitness, confidence, ability to relax etc. and enjoy the experience. Barry Sea Cadet

Barry Sea Cadets offer a range of activities such as shooting, drill, first aid, marine engineering, seamanship, sailing, power boating, swimming, football to name just a few. Unit training is based around the District / Area / National Training programme of events and competitions giving youngsters the opportunity to attend courses on Royal Naval bases.

The Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide voluntary uniformed youth organisation, open to young people between the ages of 10 – 18years, regardless of sex, religion or race, and within the bounds of safety to themselves and others, to those with special needs.

The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy.

Llantwit Major Art & Craft Group

The Llantwit Major Art & Craft Group was formed in 1971 by local artists to promote and encourage all forms of Art and was later extended to include Crafts of various kind. 

Meetings are held at 7:30pm on the first Friday of each month, except January and August, normally in the Llantwit Major Pensioners Centre. A varied program of speakers and demonstrations, both Art and Craft ( including our A.G.M in October and our Grand Christmas Draw in December), is arranged for these meetings by the Committee with new ideas welcomed from members. 

Visitors are welcome to attend the monthly meetings on payment of a fee which can be deducted from the same year's subscription should the visitor later to decide to become a member. 

In the Summer an Annual Exhibition of members work is held. After a private preview evening, with an Official Opening, the Exhibition is opened to the public for eight days and many members make their work available for sale. 

Monthly Newsletters giving up to date details of events are delivered free to members, usually by hand with those living outside our delivery area paying a contribution towards postage.

Llantwit Major Bowls Club.

Llantwit Major Bowls Club is open every day from April to the end of September  from 2pm until dusk. We have two mens teams, one ladies team and one junior team, we also provide coaching for both juniors and adults. Llantwit Major Boxing Club.

The Llantwit Major Boxing Club has relocated to a squash court at the towns Rugby Club.
We have twelve stations in our new gymnasium, with quality  bags, balls and wall pads, we also have a 16 foot floor boxing ring.
The Senior Coach is Tony Meakin who is an Ex RAF Sergeant Physical Training Instructor.His specialities is boxing, being 6 times RAF Champion and 3 times, Combined Service Champion.RAF & CSBA Coach he is also a qualified Judge and Provisional Referee.He has also been a Welsh Boxing Coach on two occations
The other Coaches are Mike Dixon, Mark Canning and Kevin Darch..

Anyone who is interested in either joining the coastguard, or who would just like to know more, can contact the Station Officer Keith Walker by clicking here.  

They train at the Firestation in Llantwit major every other Monday, their next training session will be Monday 11th September 06, and then every other Monday.

They also do some weekend training, as well as weekly patrols, teams of two will go out in the vehicle gaining valuable information on the area they look after, as well as  communicating with other groups, ie Police, Lifeguards, Lifeboats and heritage coast.

Llantwit Major Grasshoppers - Country Dance Club for children. 

Named after  famous Welsh Folk Tune the Llantwit Major Grasshoppers is a country dance club for children founded in 1996. We meet each Monday evening in term time in the comprehensive school hall at 6,30 until 8pm. The children learn country and folk dancing from all over Europe with an emphasis on dances from Great Britain. Our aim is to have fun and enjoyment whilst learning to work as a team. We are strictly non competitive and never enter formal competions believing folk dancing is for fun. We try and dance at various events throughout the year and the team has a reputation for enthusiasm and always having live music. Llantwit Major Horticultural Society. 
 
The Society is an active society with over 300 members who for a membership fee of £5 per year enjoy monthly meetings held in the LLantonian hall the last Wednesday in the month at 19:30 hours, when we have a variety of speakers on all matters pertaining to horticulture.
 
The society organises two or three trips per year to various gardens/shows around the country as one day events.We also have our own shop where goods can be purchased
  
In August each year we hold the Flower and Vegetable show that comprises of 80 classes of entries covering, vegetables, flower,decorative and novices sections, childrens classes and home baking,
wine, beer, spirits and liquors making plus preserves. All entries are are judged by the National Vegetable Society or Royal Horticultural Society judges.
A small fee for entry is required with the winners receiving prizes and trophies.The event is open to all.

Llantwit Major Shotakan Karate Club
Simon Dodd took over in November 2007 and is one of the youngest instructors in the Vale.
However, he is highly experienced and has been involved in the club for the last 11 years.
He has recently become WKU senior. Kata champion (competition held 17th February 08).
It is a non profit making club and welcomes people of all ages and abilities. .

Llantwit Major Lacrosse
The club currently practices on a Friday afternoon during the school lunch time, so at present it is limited to students of the secondary school. We have also started playing in the primary schools, our plan is to expand these programs to after school practices.
 That way anyone interested could come to start training. We will be entering the Welsh Mixed Lacrosse league this Spring. We are always interested in more players, and especially coaches or volunteers that want to get involved. 
 The version of the game we are playing is a non-contact, mixed gender sport, our hopes are that in the future we will be able to branch out into the women's (limited contact, stick - stick only) and men's (stick and body contact, very fast and physical) versions of the game.

Twinning between Llantwit Major and the beautiful sea-side town of Le Pouliguen in Southern Britanny has flourished for 24 years since its foundation in 1982. The towns take turns in hosting groups of residents each year and families entertain the visitors in their homes.

St John Cymru Wales - Llantwit Major Division

Following the establishment of the division in the summer of 2007 the group has developed considerable. Newly joined members have been given full First Aid training, adding to the safety of their friends, family and the general community. They have also had the opportunity to provide first aid cover at a variety of events from local, community organised fetes and fun days to rugby matches and concerts at the Millennium Stadium. The division are now looking for new members in order to expand. Vale Photographic Club

The Club draws members form Llantwit Major and across the Vale. Members meet weekly on Friday Evenings at Ystradowen Village Hall 7.30p.m. It is open to all persons interested in photography at whatever level of competency. Unlike a number of other clubs in South Wales we encompass both traditional film and digital images.

Whitmore Bay Surf Life Saving Club is based at Barry Island. We train though out the year and patrol Whitmore Bay during the summer. We welcome any ages and any standards.
