I am trying to find some further information about my great great grandfather William White Rouch who I believe was the first minister of the newly built Wesleyan ChapeI   in Wesley Street Llantwit Major in February 1848. Does anyone know where he lived in the town or from which ministry he came? Any information about him or his family would be welcome. Thanks

I wonder if anybody can help me. For many years I have been researching the history of the Youth Hostels Association, collecting handbooks, postcards, photographs and other archives. I am putting together a complete database of the 1100 or so all-time youth hostels in England and Wales, and have so far found illustrations for about 800 of them, many of which were obscure and short-lived.

I have several gaps among old South Wales and Wye Valley hostels, and would love to hear from anyone who has memories - and especially pictures to loan - of YHs at Llantwit Major, St Athan, Llwyn-On, Capel-y-Ffin bunglaow and monastery, Cilibion, Hodgston Hill, Ferryside, Forest Lodge, Heol Senni, Llanmadoc, Upper Chapel, Blackbrrok, Coedkernew, Dan-y-Graig, Grosmont and Usk. Many of these operated only in the 1930s or 1940s, but possibly you have records of them somewhere. If you can help with any information or in any way (even information about the buildings as they are at present) please email or ring me on 01751 431572 (N Yorks). I should be very glad to return your expenses.

I have recently visited the beach at Llantwit, and would like to know what the geology of the cliffs is, as they are quite spectacular.  There is multicolouring in some of the caves, which I would like to know how it is formed.

I also found a fossilised mollusc on the beach, and wondered if there is someone I could contact to get it identified.
